“You are special. Regardless of your abilities, appearance, culture, gender, race or the assumptions society has placed on you. Because all children deserve to experience peace, joy and fulfilment of their potential and purpose.”

In this podcast episode we speak to Jyoti Jo Manuel founder of Special Yoga, a global organisation that was founded in 2003. It was established to provide and develop sustainable and accessible yoga based programmes for children with special and additional needs within education, therapeutic settings and within the family. Jyoti Jo Manuel has been a serious practitioner of yoga since 1974. She started teaching in 1989. She is a leading teacher trainer and practitioner of therapeutic yoga for children with special needs.

Her heartfelt mission is to implement and share sustainable therapeutic yoga programmes and trainings, allowing children all over the world to receive the significant benefits of yoga practice, so that each child is given the opportunity to thrive and reach their fullest potential. The underpinning of all that Special Yoga offers is a heart based understanding that ‘your state matters’ as the Adult around the child.

She has worked within education for the National Health Service in the UK, most recently with a pilot programme for children with additional needs who were at risk of exclusion from school. Special Yoga also worked with ADAPT in Mumbai on a research study on the value of therapeutic yoga for adolescents with cerebral palsy.

Podcast reviews:

“Always enlightening and interesting! Good for the soul – friendly, inclusive, informative and caring, like a warm hug from a good friend. What more could you want from a podcast?”

“Fantastic podcast. Wonderful interesting subjects and very enjoyable to listen to.”

“Incredible!!! Spirituality plus real life, sprinkled with a huge dose of love. This podcast will speak to your soul. Raw, authentic and honest. Despite how it’s commercially depicted, yoga isn’t some contortionist act or sweating in a studio. Nor is it a group hippies chanting. Yoga is life. This podcast is an absolute blessing!!”
