In this podcast episode, our first episode of Season 3 we talk to Anna Ashby, a senior teacher and trainer in the UK. Anna specialises in Restorative Yoga where diving deep into embodied experience with a focus on nervous system health enables a profound shift of perception and state that supports well-being and integration.
Restorative practice is mostly passive and breath oriented where the body is supported on bolsters and blankets and held for longer periods of time than in an active class. The interiority and stillness embodied by this type of yoga practice shifts the nervous system out of ‘fight or flight’ into a deeply felt relaxation response.
In this episode we talk about her new book, Restorative Yoga: Power Presence Practice for Teachers and Trainees which elucidates and celebrates this powerful style of practice so important in maintaining balance and the state of equilibrium. It serves as an in depth guide for those interested in going deeper into Restorative Yoga.
About Anna Ashby
Anna has been studying and practicing yoga for over 30 years and teaching for over 20. She holds the highest level of certification with Yoga Alliance E-RYT-500. She also holds a B.A. (hons) in Modern Dance which she gained from Mills College in California in 1991.
Anna’s teaching style has evolved from her study of dance, in-depth training within styles of modern postural yoga focussing on alignment and precision, and immersion in a wide variety of yoga practices and teachings while living for 12 years in a yoga ashram in upstate New York in the 1990’s. Anna weaves together flowing and artful movement, healthy alignment and stillness – all of which express the essence of yoga as awareness. She curates a purposeful sequence at a slow and measured pace which enables a process that can result in deep connection and joyful presence.
